One of Jenner & Block’s core values is to create and maintain an unrivaled environment for superior talent – an inclusive and diverse environment. This means that we work to make sure that all of our people feel respected, included and able to fully contribute. We have a variety of programs, policies and support structures designed to support this goal. Among other things, we focus on ways that we can help partners and associates develop relationships that cross levels, backgrounds and offices. Building an internal network of formal and informal mentors and supportive colleagues is important and helps ensure success.
In addition to providing a wide range of mentoring, training and development programs, the firm supports the success of lawyers of color through four affinity groups: Hispanic Lawyers Forum, African American Affinity Group, Asian Forum, and the Multicultural Lawyers Affinity Group.
These affinity groups provide a forum for lawyers of color to meet regularly, exchange ideas, identify resources that would help advancement and development, and discuss matters related to improving diversity in the legal profession and at Jenner & Block.
The affinity groups also work with the Hiring Committee to sponsor recruiting events for potential summer associates, including a fall reception at which prospective summer associates can meet firm lawyers and experience our diverse culture. During the summer the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, Hiring Committee and affinity groups host a formal Diversity Dinner, which is attended by more than 190 lawyers and summer associates. At this event, we celebrate diversity at the firm, recognize the recipients of the firm’s diversity scholarships and hear from a dynamic guest speaker on a diversity-related topic.
