Jenner & Block Partner Jerry J. Burgdoerfer has been selected to receive an Indiana University “Distinguished Alumni Award.” The all-university award, which was presented on February 1, 2013, recognizes Mr. Burgdoerfer’s outstanding achievements in his career, as well as his substantial and significant contributions through his service to the university, the legal profession, organizations furthering diversity and equality, and the community-at-large. Mr. Burgdoerfer holds three degrees from IU, including his J.D., which he earned cum laude, in 1983, an M.B.A., also earned in 1983, and his bachelor’s degree.
Mr. Burgdoerfer is a founding member, former Vice-President and current President of an Alumni Advisory Board of the Indiana University Maurer School of Law. For a number of years, Mr. Burgdoerfer also has served as a volunteer Class Agent for the School’s Fund for Excellence.
Mr. Burgdoerfer is a member of Jenner & Block’s Corporate Department and Co-Chair of the Firm’s Securities Practice. He represents private and publicly held concerns headquartered in the United States and abroad, counseling clients on complex mergers, acquisitions, private equity transactions, registered spin-offs, dispositions, securities offerings and restructurings, and general corporate and business matters. Company boards and board committees also seek his advice on fiduciary duty and corporate governance issues, and director and officer indemnification and advancement matters.
IU Bloomington Provost Lauren Robel, who introduced the honoree at the presentation of the award, said, "I am particularly delighted to participate in the ceremony honoring Jerry, who was my classmate at the IU Maurer School of Law and has gone on to lead an exemplary career."
